Council to consider change for new short-term rental law, fire truck replacement plan
The Atlanta City Council will consider legislation Tuesday to amend 20-O-1656 related to the regulation and taxation of short-term rentals to change the effective date of the ordinance to provide additional time for implementation and enforcement of the provisions (Legislative Reference №21-O-0426).
The Council will also consider legislation to express support for the City of Atlanta’s plan to acquire three new tractor-drawn aerial fire truck apparatus and three new 1,500 GPM pumpers in Fiscal Year 2022 and an additional two new tractor-drawn aerial fire truck apparatus and three new 1,500 GPM pumpers in Fiscal Year 2023 for the use and benefit of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
Other items on Tuesday’s agenda include:
• A resolution authorizing the acceptance of the donation of 10 2021 Ford Explorers, valued at approximately $579,929 from the Atlanta Police Foundation to augment the Atlanta Police Department’s presence throughout the city (Legislative Reference №21-R-3654).
• A resolution authorizing the acceptance of the donation of a 2020 Ford Transit Van valued at $38,250 from the Atlanta Police Foundation on behalf of the Atlanta Police Department to be used as an additional police vehicle for the Police Athletic League (“PAL”)/COPS/At-Promise Centers (Legislative Reference №21-R-3655).
• A resolution authorizing the execution of a lighting equipment study agreement between the City of Atlanta and Georgia Power regarding the number, location, and quality of outdoor lighting poles, lights, and related assets on behalf of the Atlanta Department of Transportation and authorizing the chief financial officer to remit payment to Georgia Power in an amount not to exceed $750,000 (Legislative Reference №21-R-3661).
• A resolution to expand the boundaries of the Westside/Howell Mill Community Improvement District (CID) to include additional parcels located on the border in Council District 9 (Legislative Reference №21-R-3618).
• An ordinance to amend an agreement with Partners for Home to add an amount not exceed approximately $4.3 million to contribute to the funding efforts of the nonprofit and philanthropic communities to provide individual shelter options with supportive services for those experiencing homelessness because of the COVID-19 pandemic (Legislative Reference №21-O-0424).
• An ordinance to amend the 2015 Municipal Facilities Bond by transferring $300,000 from the District 11 Renew Atlanta Bond to make Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements at the Cascade Springs Nature Preserve. (Legislative Reference №21-O-0430).
• A resolution authorizing the submission of a Fiscal Year 2021 U.S. Department of Transportation Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (“RAISE”) grant in an amount not to exceed $1 million for planning of the Stitch, a proposal to cap part of the Downtown Connector with new greenspace (Legislative Reference №21-R-3621).
• A communication appointing Balram Bheodari to serve as the aviation general manager for the City of Atlanta (Legislative Reference №21-C-0080). This item will be on the Committee on Council’s agenda before consideration by full Council.
• A resolution authorizing an encroachment agreement with Grady Memorial Hospital to install steam and condensate pipes under the right of way at 50 Coca Cola Place SE to create a continuous feed from the Grady Steam Plant to the steam room in the hospital’s basement (Legislative Reference №21-R-3620).
The Committee on Council will be held in committee of the whole during the full Council meeting July 6.
