Atlanta City Council approves $10 million application for funding of BeltLine’s Southside Trail
ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council approved an ordinance ratifying the submission of a $10 million application to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Transportation Improvement Program to fund the construction of the Atlanta Beltline’s Southside Trail (24-O-1183).
Other items approved by City Council include:
• An ordinance authorizing the mayor to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Fulton County Government for animal control services 24 hours a day for a five-year term, within the city. Payment for services will use a formula based on the City’s monthly calls for service (24-O-1171).
• A resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for and accept federal funding to participate in the Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2024 Transportation Improvement Program call for projects (24-R-3440).
• An ordinance authorizing the City’s chief financial officer to amend the Fiscal Year 2024 budget by transferring $2 million to the Department of Labor and Employment Services Support Trust Fund to fund the 2024 Summer Youth Employment Program (24-O-1172).
• An ordinance authorizing a $15,000 donation to the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) for the “Artist Jam” project on Peachtree Street between Alabama Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (24-O-1182).
• A resolution establishing a Transportation Task Force to address traffic congestion in District 8 as part of the city’s Connect Atlanta Plan. The task force will help manage the development of a district-wide transportation plan in concert with ATLDOT and representatives of the neighborhoods, NPUs, and partner organizations (24-R-3442).
• An ordinance to create an Atlanta Community Energy Fund (ACEF) and amend the FY 2024 budget, transferring $500,000 from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund into the Atlanta Community Energy Trust Fund to deposit and transfer future funds generated by the sale of renewable energy credits, federal funding opportunities, and other sources (24-O-1188).
• A resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into one-year agreements with 14 organizations under the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Centers of Hope Afterschool Programming Services initiative for $1.2 million (24-R-3528).
The City Council presented proclamations and recognized City of Atlanta Attorney Nina Hickson, Dr. Albert Paul Brinson, Atlanta Girls’ School, National Public Works Week, and Water Safety Month.
Items were introduced for consideration in committee, including:
• An ordinance authorizing acceptance of $3.2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund design and engineering for the Midtown Connector Project.
• A supplemental bond ordinance providing for the issuance of $600,000 in Airport General Revenue Bonds to fund improvements at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
• A resolution authorizing an agreement with the Georgia State Historical Preservation Office, the Housing Authority, and the Atlantic Civic Center for dealing with the potential adverse effects resulting from the planned redevelopment of the Atlanta Civic Center property.
• An ordinance authorizing a $4,500 donation to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
• An ordinance accepting a donation from Atlanta Public Schools, allowing the City to install two markers on the Frederick Douglass High School campus to commemorate the school’s history as a civic institution.
